In the summer of 1869, the construction of the Metallurgical plant was started and that gave the birth of the city of Donetsk. What started first as a small mining community, quickly grew into a town in May of 1917, when its population reached 70 000. In July of 1932 the city Stalino (it became Donetsk only in the year of 1961) became the center of Donetsk region.
